This month is National Diabetes Awareness Month, so we want all of our patients to be well informed on the warning signs of Diabetes and the mouth. One particular danger that comes with gum disease is the difficulty in keeping blood sugar under control, a vital part in the fight against diabetes. If the situation progresses far enough, it can even lead to teeth loss. If you have diabetes, it’s important to keep close tabs on your situation along with your dentist, who can help you come up with plan to combat the effects of your diabetes with proper oral hygiene. Be sure to know all the warning signs of gum disease, such as bleeding gums when you brush, a bad taste that stays in your mouth, or white patches. With proper education, awareness, and treatment, gum disease is very preventable! See your dentist every 6 months to make sure all is well and a proper plan is in place, and then stay disciplined with your oral hygiene You’ll smile much more because of it!
