Your questions
A cleaning addresses deposits on the teeth, and the examination looks for signs of disease or damage. We review concerns such as bleeding gums, sensitivity, a broken filling, or changes in your bite. Your medications and health history can affect the discussion, including issues such as dry mouth.
During the visit, plaque and hardened deposits are removed as appropriate, and we assess the teeth and gums. We may recommend X-rays when the findings or your history make them useful. The appointment also gives you time to ask about home care. Our general dentistry services support both preventive visits and treatment when an examination identifies a problem.
Understanding your options
Your visit interval should reflect your risk for cavities and gum disease. Some patients benefit from more frequent care than others. A history of gum disease, frequent decay, dry mouth, or difficulty cleaning can change the schedule we recommend. A calendar reminder alone does not tell us what your mouth needs.
Tell us if bleeding, pain, or swelling develops between appointments rather than waiting for your next cleaning. We also review changes since your last visit, such as new medications or a new restoration. For families scheduling care together, remember that we see patients ages 12 and up. Care considerations
A routine cleaning and treatment for gum disease address different clinical needs. If there are deeper gum pockets or signs of disease affecting the support around teeth, we may recommend treatment beyond a standard preventive cleaning. The recommendation follows a gum assessment rather than the amount of visible stain alone.
We explain what we find, what type of cleaning is appropriate, and whether additional appointments are needed. A patient with active gum disease may need a different plan from someone with healthy gums. Learn about gum disease treatment in Temecula. We are a general dental practice, and we discuss referral when a problem requires care beyond the appropriate scope of treatment here.
Looking ahead
Daily brushing and cleaning between teeth support the work done at your appointment. Use fluoride toothpaste and choose a flossing or interdental method you can use consistently. Tell us which areas are difficult to reach so we can discuss a practical adjustment rather than giving you a one-size-fits-all routine.
Frequent sugary snacks and drinks can increase decay risk. Dry mouth also deserves attention, especially if it began after a medication change. Do not stop prescribed medication on your own; tell us and the prescribing clinician about the symptom. If early enamel changes are found, we can discuss preventive options. Our Curodont information explains one approach for selected early lesions before a hole has formed.

Compare the approaches
These services have different goals, and one does not replace the others.
| Option | Purpose or approach | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Preventive cleaning | Removes deposits as part of care for appropriate gum conditions. | Supports oral health and helps maintain clean tooth surfaces. |
| Gum disease treatment | Addresses disease around the teeth, based on examination findings. | May require a different procedure and maintenance schedule. |
| Teeth whitening | Changes the shade of natural teeth with an appropriate whitening method. | Does not remove the need for examinations or cleaning. |
Cost & payment
Your cleaning and examination costs depend on the care indicated. Our new patient special is $99 for an exam, X-rays, and cleaning, or $79 for patients ages 12–17. If the examination identifies a need for a different type of treatment, we explain that recommendation and quote its cost before care begins.
We quote recommended treatment before it begins. Ask what the plan includes, whether care is staged, and which follow-up visits are anticipated. If the findings change, we explain the revised recommendation and cost before additional treatment.
Patients without dental insurance can ask about the Ethos Cares in-house dental plan. Review current membership details and how they apply to your proposed care before choosing a payment approach.
We offer financing through CareCredit and Sunbit. Review eligibility and the specific payment terms, including any interest or fees. The availability of financing does not guarantee approval or a particular rate.
We accept most PPO plans. We do not accept Delta Dental PPO, MetLife PPO, United Concordia, or Tricare. Review our insurance information and contact us with your plan details. Benefits for any particular service depend on your plan and are not guaranteed.

Common questions
These answers cover common questions. Your examination and discussion with our team determine the recommendation for your care.
Yes. Some cavities and gum problems cause few noticeable symptoms at first. An examination checks areas you cannot assess at home and helps identify changes over time. We use the findings to recommend care and a suitable return interval. Feeling comfortable is useful information, but it does not replace a dental assessment.
Not necessarily. We select dental X-rays based on your examination, symptoms, history, and available previous images. Different people need different imaging intervals. Let us know when and where your last images were taken. We can explain what a proposed image may show and how it could affect your treatment plan.
Removing surface deposits and some external stain can make teeth look cleaner, but a cleaning is not the same as whitening. It does not predictably change the underlying shade of natural teeth. If color is your main concern, we can discuss suitable whitening options after checking for decay, gum problems, and existing restorations.
Bleeding can be a sign of gum inflammation, although an examination is needed to identify the cause. Tell us whether it happens in one area or throughout your mouth. We assess the gums and discuss cleaning technique and treatment needs. Persistent bleeding should not be dismissed simply because it has become familiar.
You can receive dental care, but a standard preventive cleaning may not be the appropriate treatment. Gum measurements and other findings help us determine what is needed. We explain the recommended procedure, appointment sequence, and maintenance plan. Treatment for active gum disease and routine cleaning are not interchangeable services.
Bring your medication list, relevant health information, and insurance details if you have a plan. Tell us about recent dental X-rays so existing records can be considered. Write down symptoms and questions you do not want to forget. If your visit involves sedation, follow the separate preparation instructions provided for that appointment.
We explain recommended care and quote its cost before treatment begins. If you have insurance, benefits depend on your specific plan and are not guaranteed. Patients without insurance can ask about Ethos Cares. Financing through CareCredit and Sunbit is also available to discuss alongside the proposed treatment and applicable payment terms.
