The Short Answer

What Is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is a small titanium post placed in the jawbone where a tooth is missing. Over a few months the bone fuses to it, and it becomes a permanent root for a crown, a bridge or a denture. Unlike a bridge, it doesn't need support from the teeth next to it, and unlike a regular denture, it doesn't slip.

At Ethos Advanced Dental Care in Temecula, Dr. Jeremy Sewell and our team plan, place and restore implants in one office, so you aren't sent between specialists.

  • Replaces the tooth root, not just the crown
  • Helps stop jawbone shrinkage
  • No filing down of healthy teeth
  • Eat, speak and smile normally
  • Can last for decades with good care
  • Works for one tooth or a full arch

The Process

How Dental Implants
Work at Ethos.

Most patients go from placement to final tooth in about three to six months. Here's what each step looks like.

01

Consultation & 3D Scan

We examine your mouth and take a Genoray 3D cone beam scan, which takes about eight seconds, to measure your bone and map nerves and sinuses.

02

Digital Plan & Surgical Guide

We plan the exact position of each implant on the computer, then print a custom surgical guide in-office on our Moonray 3D printer.

03

Implant Placement

The implant is placed under local anesthesia, with oral conscious sedation if you'd like. Most patients are back to normal routines within a day or two.

04

Healing

Over roughly three to six months the bone fuses to the implant. You'll wear a temporary tooth or denture so you're never without a smile.

05

Digital Impressions

Once the implant is solid, we scan it with our iTero digital scanner. No goopy impression trays.

06

Your Final Tooth

Your custom crown, bridge or denture is attached and adjusted for your bite and color match.

How much do dental implants cost in Temecula?

It depends on how many teeth you're replacing, whether you need an extraction or bone grafting first, and what goes on top of the implant (a single crown, a bridge or a full-arch denture). After your free consultation and 3D scan, we give you an itemized quote before any treatment starts, along with your financing and insurance options.

Does dental insurance cover dental implants?

Many PPO plans pay toward part of the treatment, most often the crown, up to your plan's annual maximum. Coverage, waiting periods and limits vary by plan, so we check your benefits and show you your estimated out-of-pocket cost before you commit.

Is getting a dental implant painful?

The implant is placed with local anesthesia, so most patients feel pressure rather than pain. Oral conscious sedation is available if you're anxious. Expect some soreness and swelling for a few days afterward, which most people manage with over-the-counter pain relievers.

How long does the dental implant process take?

Placing the implant is a single visit. The implant then needs time to fuse with your jawbone, usually about three to six months, before the final crown, bridge or denture is attached. Full-arch All-on-4 patients usually leave the day of surgery with temporary fixed teeth.

How long do dental implants last?

With good home care and regular checkups, the implant itself can last for decades. In long-term studies, more than 95% of implants are still in place after ten years. The crown on top is subject to normal wear and may need replacing after many years of use.

Am I a good candidate for dental implants?

Most adults who are missing teeth can get implants. You need healthy gums and enough jawbone to hold the implant, which we measure on a 3D cone beam scan. Smoking and uncontrolled diabetes raise the risk of complications, so we review your health history at the consultation.

What if I don't have enough jawbone for an implant?

Bone often shrinks after a tooth is lost. Your 3D scan shows exactly how much bone you have. Depending on the result, options can include bone grafting or a full-arch approach like All-on-4, which angles the implants to use the bone you already have.

Is a dental implant better than a bridge?

An implant replaces the tooth root, so the teeth on either side don't have to be filed down and the jawbone underneath stays stimulated. A bridge is faster and usually costs less up front, but it relies on the neighboring teeth and typically needs replacing sooner. We'll walk you through both.

Can implants replace all of my teeth or my dentures?

Yes. Implant-supported dentures snap onto a few implants so they stop slipping, and All-on-4 full-arch implants give you a fixed set of teeth that doesn't come out. Both are options for patients with no teeth or failing teeth.

How do I take care of dental implants?

Brush twice a day, clean between your teeth with floss or a water flosser, and keep your regular cleanings. Implants can't get cavities, but the gums around them can become infected if plaque builds up, so daily cleaning matters.

Do you offer sedation for implant surgery?

Yes. Dr. Sewell has advanced training in oral conscious sedation, which helps anxious patients stay relaxed and comfortable through implant surgery. Ask about it at your consultation.
